Objectives and content

By making use of vocabulary, listening and grammar exercises, you will acquire the basic vocabulary and grammar that you need to understand very simple, clearly pronounced words and short sentences and you will be able to make short sentences in the present tense yourself. At the end of this course, you will be able to present yourself understandably both when speaking and writing and to talk about your hobbies.

  • You will familiarise yourself with the basic rules of pronunciation in French.
  • Acquiring and practising the basic grammar of French (the present tense of verbs, the use of articles, the form and use of possessive pronouns, the form of adjective, the negation, etc.)
  • Diverse and varied vocabulary exercises allow you to expand your vocabulary.
  • Grammar and vocabulary will be practiced by means of short listening and speaking exercises (dialogues).
  • You will learn to undestand short texts (e.g. a text on a postcard) and to write a short text yourself.

Required prior knowledge

No prior knowledge of French is required. Please note that participants of the course French level 1 are mainly students who are not native speakers of Dutch.
