English for Lecturers

Objectives and content

This interactive course, spread over eight sessions, helps you teach more fluently and confidently in English. It is organized by the University Language Centre (UCT) and is taught on site (SEM1) and online (SEM2).

Each session offers an insight into a specific aspect of academic life and teaching as well as their related language skills. Using authentic materials, including your own input, you explore key teaching strategies such as structuring, voicing opinion, and formulating definitions. The course provides a valuable opportunity to refresh your grammar and expand your academic vocabulary, all within a communicative and engaging framework. This way, it can also help you prepare for the ITACE test for lecturers. Additionally, through practical exercises and group discussions, you refine your teaching skills in English, while addressing both general topics and personal challenges.
