Objectives and content

  • Listening skills: Authentic materials enable you to learn how to understand and process spoken English more fluently. You will also become more familiar with more complicated grammatical structures.
  • Speaking skills: Improving the speaking skills is an important objective of this course. Role-plays, class discussions and individual speaking assignments enable the participants to speak as much as possible.
  • Reading skills: You will familiarise yourself further with authentic text materials.
  • Writing skills: Practical assignments will give you the opportunity to practise grammatical items and structures in realistic contexts.

Required prior knowledge

  • You already have thorough basic knowledge of English (secondary school level), but you want to improve your knowledge.
  • You need a good command of English (for work, studies, etc.) and you also want to be able to write and speak in more complex situations (e.g. expressing different nuances).

Tests

There is a placement test and a final test.
You will need to complete a short online test before registration. This way, you will be able to assess whether your level matches the course Practical English 4.
During the first session, your teacher will evaluate if the result of the online test can be confirmed.
If you are referred to a different level you can enter that level on condition that sufficient places are still available.
