Objectives and content
- Speaking skills: Interaction is a major objective of this course. All grammatical structures and communicative skills (e.g. going to the doctor, opening a bank account and booking a hotel room) will be practised so that you can fluently use them in daily life.
- Different forms of speaking exercises will be done in class, such as class and group conversations and pair work.
- Listening skills: Semi-authentic listening materials are often used in class. By means of specific listening assignments, you will learn how to understand simple spoken messages.
- Writing skills: You will learn how to write short texts on your own life and everyday topics. Reading skills: You will familiarise yourself with short texts and how to find relevant information.
- Specific grammatical items: You will extend your basic knowledge of the Dutch grammar. The formation of complex sentences is dealt with (subordinate clauses with 'omdat', 'terwijl', indirect speech, relative clauses) as well as the different past tenses (perfectum/VTT and imperfectum/OVT).
